Shani Sadesati: Seven and Half Years of Saturn
Lord Shani is considered the God of justice. Planet Saturn is a physical representation of Lord Shanidev. Being the brother of Lord Yama, he is the one who is responsible for distributing the fruits of good and bad karmas. Today, we will look at one of the most significant aspects of astrology, the Shani Sadesati, or commonly known as Sadesati.
Sade means half, and Sati means seven. Therefore, Sadesati is a period of seven and half years in the horoscope. Sadesati is an astrological phenomenon, which occurs when Shani (Saturn) enters into our zodiac sign. It usually happens just before our birth planet. Shani spends two and half years in a zodiac sign when it passes from 12th to our 2nd moon house. This period of two and half years is termed Dhayyias, or mini Panoti (smaller irritating troubles). The total period of three Dhayyias is called Sadesati.
What are the Different Phases of Sadesati?
Depending upon our horoscope and constellations, the Sadesati has been categorized into three different phases. The rising, peak, and setting phase and each of these phases have other effects on the individual. Let’s take a look at them one by one.
Rising Sadesati: It’s the phase of the first two and half years, where Saturn enters into the 12th house. This phase invites several problems in life. It is believed that we come across the challenges created by our competitors during this period. One must focus on the family and relationship during this initial phase of Sadesati because this time is considered challenging for the family ties. And hence, one must maintain a healthy relationship to avoid unnecessary family conflicts.
Peak Sadesati: As the name suggests, this is the two and half year phase, where the negative effect of Shani will be at its peak. During this phase, Shani will enter the first house. An individual can face health issues, relationship troubles, financial problems, or business challenges. Despite giving 100 percent effort, often one does not achieve the results as per expectations. As a result, a person can fall prey to low self-confidence and even depression.
Setting Phase: This is the exit phase of Saturn, where Saturn enters into the second house to leave after staying there for two and half years. Compared to the Rising and peak phase, this phase is considered much more relieving. Here, due to the last five years, one can face severe financial loss. One can dilute the effect of Saturn by refraining from eating nonveg and alcohol consumption.
It would help if you looked forward to these things in Sadesati.
Perseverance: As Sadesati knocks on the door, forget about leisure, easy money, shortcuts, and a lavish lifestyle. Hard work will be your best friend, and laziness will be your worst enemy.
Learning: Most successful business people could not thank their bosses enough for firing them from their jobs. However, getting out of the comfort zone, learning new skills in the face of a hard time do wonders for you in the long term. So even though life throws a curveball at you, Sadesati is the best time to test your mettle and face your fears.
Hurdles: Sadesati brings hurdles to easy-going life and creates giant potholes on our road map of the future. One should fight, resisting the temptation to give up, and Lord Shani Dev will reward him for it.
Tension: This difficult period is known to create unnecessary stress on the individual. Being part of life, one should avoid overthinking. One must keep calm, avoid laziness and do his duties, giving 100% input.
Self-Respect: Due to constant failures, one might take a heavy toll on self-esteem. Embarrassing situations are known to arrive during the Sadesati period, and one constantly feels people conspiring, insulting, and trying to make him feel inferior.
Big picture: one must carefully weigh short-term losses vs. long-term gains during this period. One must think about losing a battle and winning a war. This period will push you to make some unpleasant choices, which will affect you for the rest of your lives.
Remedies for Sadesati:
Praying: Chanting Hanuman Chalisa every day helps to reduce the negative effect of Sadesati. Praying to Lord Ganesha helps to overcome the obstacles created during Sadesati. Visiting Lord Shani temple every Saturday and pouring a tiny amount of oil on Lord Shani’s idol helps us curb this phase of Sadesati.
Meditating in front of Shani Yantra (Geometric representation of Lord Shani) helps you to attain the grace of Lord Shani. Yagya (sacred fire ritual) can be conducted under the supervision of experts on Hanuman Jayanti or Shani Amavasya.
Charity: It is believed that donating to the poor and needy on Saturday soothes Lord Shani Dev. And hence, one must practice charity in these times. People suffering from Sadesati donate black clothes, black sesame, and mustard oil to the poor.
Feeding a black dog is considered a remedy while suffering from the mal effects of Saturn in the horoscope. One must donate vegetarian food to the poor. Donating home-cooked food instead of purchasing it from the restaurant makes a significant difference, as it shows you have taken an effort by yourself, going out of the way to do something good for others.
Food: One must restrain himself from consuming meat and alcohol during Sadesati. Eating clean food and living a healthy, Sattvik (pure and pious) and disciplined lifestyle helps to enhance your spiritual progress during these years. Therefore, one should stay away from meat, alcohol, smoking, and drug use, especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays, during the period of these seven and half years.
Horse Shoe: Nailing a black horseshoe on your door frame reduces the effect of Sadesati. Even wearing a black horseshoe ring is considered a good luck charm, and it’s known to repel negativity surrounding you. Horseshoe on the doorframe also offers protection against any Vastu defect, and it’s known to attract prosperity and positive vibrations.
Clothing: Wear black every Saturday. Avoid wearing leather clothes like a black outfit.
In conclusion, we would like to say that even though Sadesati is looked down upon as the most horrible period in someone’s life, with few precautions, and believing in yourself, your family, your Guru, and your Ishta will help you a lot. When performed under the supervision of spiritual experts, the methods mentioned above will ease the difficulties and hurdles you face during these difficult times. Sadesati teaches the best lessons in your life if you learn from them.
Everyone has unique spirituality, personality, and experiences. Therefore, one solution cannot fit all. Consequently, it is imperative to seek guidance from spiritual experts to get that particular mantra and advice in carrying out the specific Puja or Yagya, crafted exclusively for you during these difficult times of Sadesati. And hence, we recommend you practice these methods mentioned above under the guidance of an expert astrologer.
