Anxiety and Overthinking – Causes and Healing

Did I forget to switch the gas off? Shall I recheck? OMG the whole house might burn. Wait, did I or did I not finish my assignment? Will there be a surprise test? What if I fail? Gosh, what will the boss think of my work this week and how will it affect my appraisal? These are just a few examples of anxious thoughts that consume most of us.

All of these are healthy and important as long as they keep us alert and safe, but the line between keeping one safe and turning into anxiety and overthinking is pretty thin and difficult to notice at times. In this blog, we discuss the causes of anxiety and overthinking and how we can heal them.

What Is Anxiety and Overthinking and their Causes?

Both symptoms of mental health issues, anxiety and overthinking are interrelated. Anxiety can lead to overthinking and overthinking, anxiety. Both these symptoms are deeply connected to the Root Chakra and occur when the Chakra is either imbalanced, overly active, dormant or needs healing. Psychologically, childhood traumas, feeling unprotected or unstable, self-victimization or even day-dreaming can lead to overthinking and anxiety.

The traumas can be both, caused in childhood or adult life but they have one thing in common – a feeling of instability and deprivation of love and care.

Suppression by bullies or parent figures or elders in the house, school or workplaces can also lead to a person feeling insecure, thus leading to anxiety and overthinking. Certain physical conditions or one’s body image issues, or hormonal imbalances and lack of nutrients can also lead to these symptoms but those can be easily repaired once the hormones and nutrients are restored. Overthinking and anxiety can lead to multiple issues in a person’s social, work and spiritual life and hence it is very important to heal them. While the physical reasons can be cured through medication, the mental reasons need spiritual healing and Sadhana and might take longer than the medication route.

How to Heal Overthinking and Anxiety

We have now established the causes of overthinking and anxiety – imbalance of the Root Chakra, psychological and physical disbalance and deprivation of nutrients and love. Healing these conditions involves the elimination of the causes.

We can begin with the healing of the Root Chakra. For this, you can begin with a little physical exercise, to ground yourself and then perform the Root Chakra Sadhana –

1.Find a place in your home you can regularly perform Sadhana at (preferably where you keep your altar)

    2. Take a shower, wear clean clothes

    3. Light a Ghee (clarified butter) lamp on your left and a mustard oil lamp on your right.

    4. Sit straight (preferably with your legs crossed and spine straight, if not, then on a chair with your spine straight)  on a meditation mat and chant the following mantra – Lam Namah

    5. Chant it  for 108 times and then thank your parents, your Guru Ji, your Ishta Dev* and the divine powers for healing you.

    6. Visualize yourself in a safe space, having all that you need around you to feel loved and secure.

    7. Now, slowly open your eyes, and take in your surroundings.

    8. After this you can get up, fold the mat and keep it in place, and during the day, keep manifesting a safe space for yourself.

*Ishta Dev – An Ishta Dev is any deity (male or female) who you can easily form a relationship with and can share everything about your life with, knowing they will help you achieve your spiritual and material goals.
