Ways to Improve Emotional Maturity
Emotional maturity is your ability to understand, manage and process your emotions in a healthy manner. When we think of someone who is emotionally mature, we think of a well-grounded person who better understands who they are.
No matter the circumstances, emotionally mature people can handle themselves. Emotions have a very intimate relationship with spirituality. Emotions provide a gateway to reach our inner selves. Contentment, joy, and calmness positively affect spirituality, and spiritual practices only deepen your emotional maturity. How can one improve their emotional maturity with the help of spirituality? Let’s explore it in the blog.
Signs of an emotionally mature person.
Respecting all perspectives.
Emotionally mature people try to learn things from all perspectives. They actively seek out the perspectives and opinions of others. They don’t feel threatened with disagreements, are not afraid to ask questions, and are definitely flexible enough to change their opinions or approach to look at certain things if they are convinced.
Knowledge
An emotionally mature person knows his limits. He is well aware of the limitations of his knowledge and believes that no person cannot know all. Hence, with an open mind, they keep their eyes and ears open to learn new things daily. This self-knowledge allows them to ask for help from others, keeping their ego at bay.
Being responsible.
When things do not go according to plan and fail, mature people always take responsibility for it and learn from their mistakes. This level of honesty and self-acceptance comes only with emotional maturity. Even after learning from the mistakes, if things continue to go wrong, a well-adjusted person will seek answers inwards in order to change the course.
Self-confidence.
Emotionally mature people have a perfect balance that checks their ego at bay with the knowledge of their abilities. They do not possess a false sense of self orthey egoistic and deluded. In simple terms, they perfectly know who they are and can deal with whatever life throws at them.
Resilience.
Bhagwat Geeta calls this type of person- A Sthita Pradnya, which means the one who is extremely stable in the face of setbacks, calamities, or disappointments. An emotionally mature person will take one step back, analyse their feelings, reconcile, and plan the next move.
Flexibility.
Spirituality teaches you to be flexible and open to new thoughts, new things, and unexpected surprises in life. When things do not go according to plan, an emotionally mature person will keep calm and come up with plans B or C to move further.
Approachability.
Emotionally mature people are easy to talk to. People share many things with them because of their calm disposition. They neither allow emotions to cloud their response nor become judgemental of others. They will have a sense of humour, up to the level to know that life should not be taken too seriously. They create a perfect balance of knowing the importance of getting things done but with the importance of having fun and laughs to go along with it.
How does spirituality help to improve emotional maturity?
Spiritual practices like praying and mantra chanting keep reality in check. It makes you responsible for your actions, inactions, success stories, and losses. It forces you to learn from your mistakes and do better next time. Instead of giving excuses, it makes you take ownership of your actions and decisions in life.
Spirituality enhances your sense of self-worth, and let’s take self-shame away. When you let go of the shame, you become in charge of your life and start living on your life terms instead of trying to fit in within the other’s expectations.
-Practices like meditations help you define your boundaries and your limits. Improved emotional maturity means not letting anyone purposefully cross your boundaries instead of compromising your self-respect.
Spirituality teaches you to identify your emotions. Try journaling your emotions, your triggers, and your reactions. This shall give you insight into how you should have identified and processed these triggers and your appropriate response.
Finding a Guru can make a lot of progress in improving your emotional maturity. When you find a Guru, you try to mimic them and learn how they handle their setbacks. You see how they handle themselves in stressful situations and how they react. Just by observing them, we find new ways to react to distressing events in life.
Chakra meditation for emotional maturity
Svadhishthana, or the sacral Chakra, is the second Chakra located between the navel and tailbone. It’s often portrayed as a six-petaled saffron-colored rose and moon in between the lotus. This Chakra is known for the regulation of sexual energy, creativity, and emotions. Svadhishthana means the dwelling space of self.
A well-balanced Sacral Chakra reflects a sense of well-being, abundance, pleasure, joy, resourcefulness, and creativity. A blocked sacral chakra can cause emotional imbalance, fearing the news, displeasure, addiction, and impediment to overall creativity. If you are having trouble processing your emotions and controlling your abrupt reactions, it points towards the blocked Svadhishthana chakra.
Many ways, like aromatherapy, positive affirmation, yoga, etc., can bring balance to the Chakra. But the best way is to meditate, focusing on the Chakra while chanting the mantra “Vam Namah.”
So next time when you will sit for the meditation, wear loose clothes, preferably orange or amber colored clothes. Get in a comfortable position and concentrate on your breathing for the next five to seven minutes with closed eyes.
When you begin to breathe deeply, begin chanting the powerful Beej (seed) mantra “Vam Namah” loudly, pronouncing every letter in the correct manner. After chanting for three to four minutes, begin chanting the mantra in your mind. While focusing on the location of the Chakra, keep chanting the mantra. After chanting the mantra for about ten to twelve minutes, stop chanting, and get out of the meditation.
This powerful mantra will provide cleansing to your Swadhisthana Chakra, boosting your creativity to new heights. It will create positivity within you, granting you the internal strength to process your emotions. If you have been dealing with unfavourable stars, this mantra will reduce their adverse effects on you.
Even though there is plenty of literature available on Chakra balancing, it is highly recommended that one learn these steps under the supervision of a Guru. Everyone has unique spirituality, personality, and experiences. One solution cannot fit all; therefore, it is imperative to seek guidance from spiritual experts to get that unique mantra and Chakra meditation method crafted exclusively for you. And hence, we recommend you practice these methods mentioned above under the guidance of an expert.
