Yashoda Jayanti
Maa Yashoda was the foster mother of Lord Krishna. Their bond symbolizes the deep, nurturing connection between the soul (Maa Yashoda) and the divine (Shri Krishna). It’s said that Lord Krishna, the Supreme Being, willingly takes the form of a child to engage in a sweet and intimate relationship with His devotees. Yashoda’s love for Krishna exemplifies the pure, selfless love that a devotee should have for the divine.
The celebration of Maa Yashoda Jayanti serves as a joyous tribute to the motherly divine love that flourished between Yashoda and Lord Krishna. Join us as we delve into the significance of Yashoda Jayanti, unraveling the layers of spiritual wisdom concealed within the motherly affection of Yashoda.
An ancient text of Srimad Bhagvatam describes the place of Maa Yashoda in Shri Krishna’s life:
नेमं विरिञ्चो न भवो न श्रीरप्यङ्गसंश्रया ।प्रसादं लेभिरे गोपी यत्तत्प्राप विमुक्तिदात् ॥
Nemam Virincho Na Bhavo Na ShirapyaSangashraya।
Prasadam Lebhire Gopi Yattprap Vimuktidat॥
-Srimad Bhagavatam 10.9.20
Neither Lord Brahma nor Lord Shiva, nor even the Goddess of fortune Maa Lakshmi, who is the better half of the Supreme Lord, can obtain from the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the deliverer from this material world, such courtesy as received by mother Yashoda.
Significance of Yashoda Jayanti
Yashoda Jayanti, falling on the sixth day of the waning moon in the Hindu month of Phalgun, is a day dedicated to honoring the divine connection between Mother Yashoda and Lord Krishna.
The worship on this day extends beyond mere rituals; it is a spiritual practice aimed at seeking blessings for the well-being and happiness of children.
The loving bond between Mother Yashoda and Krishna is considered a symbol of pure, selfless maternal love. By celebrating Yashoda Jayanti, devotees aspire to embody this nurturing love in their own lives.
Observing this festival with genuine devotion is believed to invoke the divine presence, providing solace and blessings to families, especially those facing challenges related to child-rearing.
Yashoda Jayanti serves as a spiritual reminder of the importance of fostering a deep and loving relationship with the divine, reflecting the innocence and purity inherent in the formative years of Lord Krishna.
The day also emphasizes the fulfillment of sincere prayers, making it an auspicious time for devotees to express their heartfelt desires and seek divine intervention in various aspects of their lives.
Things you will need to perform Yashoda Jayanti Puja:
Clean clothes, wooden post, Ganga water, Kalash (metal pot), picture or idol of Laddu Gopal (child Krishna holding a Laddu), picture of Maa Yashoda Ji, red Chunari (cloth), Kumkum (Vermillion), fruits, flowers, sweet bread, Panjiri (Sweet made up with wheat and sugar), butter, incense, oil lamp, Aarti materials, and offerings for the cow.
How to perform Puja on Yashoda Jayanti?
Begin your day early, bathing in a holy river or using water mixed with Ganga water if a river is not nearby.
Wear clean, pure attire after your morning ablutions.
Purify a wooden post with Ganga water and place a red cloth on a wooden stool.
Set up a Kalash on the stool and install a picture or idol of Laddu Gopal with Yashoda ji.
Offer a red Chunari to Mother Yashoda and present Kumkum, fruits, flowers, sweet bread, Panjiri, and butter.
Light incense and an oil lamp, then perform rituals to worship Yashoda Mata and Lord Shri Krishna.
Listen devoutly to the Yashoda Jayanti story and conduct an Aarti for Mata Yashoda and Laddoo Gopal. If you have access, you can read a chapter from Srimad Bhagavatam (canto 10), revolving around the childhood memories of Shri Krishna and His mother Yashoda.
After the Aarti, offer sweet bread to Lord Krishna and present Panjiri and butter with utmost love and respect.
Take Panjiri Prasad and distribute it among family members.
Conclude the Puja by feeding a cow, as Lord Krishna holds a special affection for them.
Meditate during this auspicious day of Maa Yashoda Jayanti.
-Incorporate meditation using the sacred mantra ‘Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya.’
-Find a comfortable position, close your eyes, and concentrate on the divine vibrations of the mantra. Let the mantra resonate within you as you inhale deeply and exhale distractions.
-Immerse yourself in the rhythmic repetition of the mantra, invoking the divine presence of Lord Shri Krishna.
-Allow the mantra to guide your thoughts into tranquil meditation.
Just as Mother Yashoda’s love envelops Lord Krishna, let our hearts be filled with pure, selfless affection for the divine and those around us. In every child’s laughter, may we hear the echoes of Krishna’s playfulness, and in every mother’s care, may we feel the warmth of Maa Yashoda’s embrace.
