Puja Archana on the Auspicious Occasion of Labh Panchami

Understanding the Significance of Labh Panchami

The day of Labh Panchami holds a profound place in Hindu tradition, celebrated as a time of auspiciousness (shubh) to invoke prosperity and blessings. The word “Labh” means “gain” or “profit,” and the day is also known as Saubhagya Panchami (the Fortunate Fifth Day) because it’s dedicated to attracting good fortune and success (Saubhagya). On this day, devotees seek blessings for progress in wealth, education, and career, as well as for peace and growth (vikas) in their lives.

The Importance of Worship on Labh Panchami

Labh Panchami is a day to seek blessings from Mahalakshmi (Goddess of wealth and prosperity), Ganpati (Lord of beginnings and remover of obstacles), and Saraswati (Goddess of wisdom and learning). Worshiping these deities on this day is believed to bestow sampatti (prosperity), gyan (wisdom), and siddhi (success) on devotees, enriching their lives with blessings and abundance.

Gyan Panchami: Honoring the Goddess of Knowledge

Labh Panchami is also celebrated as Gyan Panchami (Day of Knowledge) since Mother Sharda (Maa Saraswati) is worshiped for wisdom and success in learning. For students and professionals, this day is especially meaningful as they offer prayers for knowledge (gyan) and the development of skills. Many worship books, account ledgers, and educational materials, viewing it as a way to invite divine blessings for a fulfilling and enlightened path in education or work.

In Gujarat, Labh Panchami is traditionally observed as the start of new business activities after Diwali. In other regions, people also mark this day by setting new goals for their career, learning, and work, harnessing its positive energy to begin anew.

How to Perform Labh Panchami Puja?

Morning Rituals

Start the day with a bath and wear clean, preferably red clothes, as red symbolizes energy and divine blessings. Offer Arghya (water) to the Sun (Surya) to receive vitality and strength.

Drawing the Swastika

Use Roli (red powder) and kumkum (vermilion) to draw a Swastika (sacred symbol of auspiciousness) on both sides of the entrance to your home. This symbol is believed to attract positive energy and divine blessings into the household.

Light a diya (lamp) in your home temple and offer prasad (food offering) to God, seeking blessings for the day.
