Mother Sita, also known as Janaki, is the daughter of righteous King Janaka. According to the ancient epic Ramayana, Maa Sita emerged from a plowed field on this auspicious day. Janaki Jayanti is a joyous celebration of Her divine appearance. This day is also referred to as Sita Ashtami, as it falls on the eighth day of the waning moon in the month of Phalgun.
In the Mithila region of Bihar, there is a vibrant celebration of this occasion. In Nepal, there is a festive atmosphere surrounding this event. In many places, theatrical performances depicting the Ramayana are organized, and colorful decorations are put up. On Janaki Jayanti, married women observe special rituals to honor this auspicious day. How to perform a Puja on Janaki Jayanti?
-On the day of Janaki Jayanti, wake up early in the morning. After completing your daily rituals and ablutions, light a lamp on the home altar, symbolizing the inner light that guides your spiritual journey.
-Take a Sankalpa for the observance of the fast after lighting the lamp. Subsequently, perform a ceremonial bath for all the deities in the home temple. Mix Ganga water with the bathing water and sanctify the deities with this consecrated water.
-Install idols of Lord Rama and Mother Sita on a pedestal.
-Adorn Mother Sita with yellow flowers, yellow garments, and exquisite decorations.
– Engage in meditation, allowing the energies of Mother Sita and Lord Rama to envelop your consciousness, fostering a connection with the divine presence.
-In the evening, perform the Aarti for Mother Sita. Then, conclude the fast.
– Pay homage to Mother Sita by offering a sacred feast. Share the Prasad with loved ones, nurturing a sense of community and abundance.
-Fill earthen pots with grains, water, and rice, then offer them as donations.
