Effective Treatment Plan for Depression – Choose Wisely
The complexity of the human mind and the physical reasons for depression make it difficult to diagnose, understand, and treat the illness. In this blog we have described different types of depression and corresponding treatment plans, that will help you take the right course and heal permanently.
Types of Depression –
Anxious Distress – This usually includes worry about possible events, loss of control, unusual restlessness, and a feeling of sadness in general.
Mixed Features – Mania and Depression are simultaneous, including elevated self-esteem, too much talking, and unusually increased energy.
Melancholic Features – Lack of response to things that otherwise brought happiness, sluggishness, agitation, feelings of guilt, major changes in appetite, and bad mood in the morning.
Atypical Features – This includes the ability to temporarily be cheered by happy events, increased appetite, excessive need for sleep, sensitivity to rejection, and a heavy feeling in the arms or legs.
Psychotic Features – This includes depressions that is accompanied by delusions or hallucinations, this may involve personal inadequacy or other negative themes.
Catatonia – This depression includes motor activity that involves either uncontrollable and purposeless movement or fixed and inflexible posture.
Peripartum Onset – This depression can occur during pregnancy or in the weeks or months after delivery (postpartum).
Seasonal Pattern – This depression is related to changes in seasons and reduced exposure to sunlight.
Besides the above, other disorders may cause depression symptoms, like –
Bipolar I and II disorders,
Cyclothymic disorder,
Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder,
Persistent depressive disorder,
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder,
Recreational drugs,
Certain prescribed medications, and
Some more medical conditions.
Kindly note that the above points are for your understanding only. Just because a person exhibits one or more symptoms from the above list, they may not necessarily be suffering from depression. Always consult a medical practitioner, (psychologist, psychotherapist, or a psychiatrist) when you feel any of the symptoms or refer your friends to them when they exhibit these symptoms.
Let’s now understand the treatment options –
Spiritual healing, psychotherapy, and medication are the most effective options for depression.
But most importantly, one needs to find out the exact cause which is leading to depression. Identifying the lack of necessary chemicals and the hormones are also important here to chalk out a treatment plan inclusive of corresponding medication and therapy.
In spiritual healing, there are different methods of healing depression, with Mantra Healing, Energy Healing, and Tantra Healing.
In psychotherapy, there are various methods with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, interpersonal therapy, talk therapy, counselling, and support.
Medications come in majorly when more physical causes and a severe difference in the hormones and chemicals are found when medication is needed to begin with and therapy and healing can follow course.
Whenever you or any member of your family face symptoms of depression, it is important to consult a practitioner immediately. You can choose to go to a spiritual healer or a medical practitioner. They need to understand the root cause and plan the treatment accordingly. Here one needs to also understand that treatment of depression isn’t a one size fits all concept and what works for one person might not be effective for another. So, try as many methods and plans as you need before you decide to follow one and it’s ok to do so. Understand your options and take the plan that you feel will work for you after counselling your healer.
