Why must a seeker be emotionally flexible?
Flexibility is defined as being capable of bending easily without breaking, being able to be easily modified to respond to altered circumstances or conditions, or being ready and able to change and adapt to different circumstances.
No one on this earth will go around living without being touched by the things happening to them. Some will be good things, and the rest will be bad. When someone goes on living with an unbending attitude, They eventually break. But when They bring flexibility into their lives, it opens up new possibilities and true happiness. The same goes with spirituality, and every seeker knows this.
But down the road, even an experienced spiritual practitioner forgets the flexibility. Ever wonder why this happens?
Humans are sensory beings. We have to see something to believe in. Most of us go on living life spiritually blind, unaware of the signs being presented in front of us. And then, if something happens to us out of the blue, we cannot survive that blow, resulting in an emotional breakdown.
In this day and age of counting Facebook likes and hearts on Instagram, we are looking for instant gratification, no matter how fragile, pointless and temporary that might be. The highest spiritual laws are based on outgoing love and care for others without expecting anything in return. This mindset of expecting something in quick returns creates problems.
Spirituality takes time and results, sometimes even a lifetime. If we take an unsuitable spiritual decision, it often leads to instant consequences. Instead of counting losses and moving on, many divert from the aim and stop practising. This inability to bend as per the situation makes a seeker morally and emotionally inflexible.
What happens when a Seeker is emotionally flexible?
Self-study.
Reading opens the gates of new information in our brains that provides a fresh perspective and hindsight to spiritual practice. It sharpens the mental acuity, accessing the rational part of the brain of a seeker, making Them calm and calculative.
Journaling.
Writing about emotions provides a much-needed catharsis to the seeker. And when the seeker ends his daily journal on a positive note expressing his gratitude, it prepares him to look at the bright side of things, enhancing the emotional pliability for a better tomorrow.
Physical exercise.
Physical activity, deep breathing, yoga, or brisk walking helps a seeker to process built-up emotions and release stress. Physical strength and flexibility also lead to mental robustness and flexibility. Heavy breaths from the diaphragm also prevent you from being rigid and trapped in conformity.
Chakra meditation for emotional flexibility
Svadhishthana chakra, also known as the Sacral chakra, is closely associated with emotional well-being. Located below the Navel area, the chakra is governed by the element water, which represents fluidity. This energy centre is related to creativity, flexibility, fun, freedom, and pleasure.
Blocked Sacral chakra can make you feel highly rigid in your thoughts. It can make you detached from your emotions and the emotions of the people around you. Orange-colored stones and clothes can help in purifying this chakra. You can promote it by tapping into creative activities like painting, writing, singing, or gardening.
Sacral chakra meditation can remove the blockages and can make you flexible emotionally. Wearing loose clothes (preferably yellow colored), get into a comfortable position. For the first five minutes, focus on your breathing. Focus on how your body feels when you inhale and exhale deep breaths. After five minutes, chant the below Beej mantra in your mind.
Suppose you are new to mantra chanting meditation. In that case, you can chant the mantra loudly for the first couple of minutes before chanting it into the mind. While chanting the mantra, visualise the image of your Ishta Deva in front of your eyes. After five to seven minutes, stop chanting, enjoy the silence for the next few minutes. And then, come out of meditation.
‘Vam Namah’
Beej Mantra’ Vam Namah’ brings balance to the Sacral Chakra. By harnessing its power, one can create emotional flexibility, reducing depression and stubbornness in your thought process. Next time you sit for meditation, chant this powerful Beej (Seed) Mantra. It will remove the blockage from your Swadhishthana Chakra and will aid you in accepting and welcoming new things in your life.
Even though there is plenty of literature available on Chakra balancing, it is highly recommended that one learn these steps under the supervision of a Guru.
