Healing Relationship Stress With Spiritual Practice
A sense of joy, fulfillment and everlasting love comes to mind when people think of successful, happy, relationships. All of us love to have that special someone to share our lives with, to love, to cherish and to be with forever. While the world is constantly seeing changes in how people understand, commit to and maintain relationships, there are emotions and feelings that remain. The needs to be understood, cherished, loved, seen, respected and adored remain the same. If these needs, for whatever reason aren’t fulfilled, then the same relationships that brought so much joy and love, might bring a lot of stress and turmoil.
These days, it doesn’t even need to be something huge, it can be as trivial as a missed text, call or being stood up on a date and people get stressed, unsure and even go into depression at times. This also comes from the unsurety, insecurities and past experiences and traumas one might have faced.
How do we deal with all these and get into a healthy relationship with ourselves first and carry on the same to our partners? More importantly, can spirituality help with these?
The answer is yes and in this blog, we look at spiritual practices that can help us not only heal any relationship stress, but also strengthen and empower our relationships.
Sadhana
As you perform Sadhana everyday consistently, all your negative thoughts, emotions, insecurities, traumas and negative traits shall heal and you will be able to look at things clearly for what they are. Compassion, love and generosity along with a clear sense of understanding will increase and you will experience calmness even in the midst of stress.
Form a Relationship with your Ishta (prime deity):
It can be that of a mother, father, sibling, or even a lover. When you do form this relationship, start noticing how you treat your Ishta. Notice how you speak with them, how you make offerings to them, how you love and adore them and how you show up for Sadhana everyday, having a heart to heart at the end. Now, bring the same love, respect, offerings, showing up, and conversations in your relationship with the humans around you. Yes, you will start seeing the magic.
Gratitude
Focusing on the things you’re thankful for can help you shift your perspective and see the good in your relationships, even when things are difficult. Try writing down things you’re grateful for each day, make a journal, and you can get into this practice with your partner. Also, you can verbally thank them every day for the little things they do and you can do the same. In addition, ensure you thank your Ishta for bringing them into your life everyday.
Be Quick to Forgive
There comes a time in every relationship, where your partner does something that might make you really angry, bitter, resentful and a lot more negative emotions. At such a time, ask yourself, is this something I can live with, love my partner despite or is this a dealbreaker? Find out if they regret their actions and are sincere in not repeating them, and once you know the answers to these questions, forgive them. Forgive them even if you can’t live with it and even if they aren’t sincere about their feelings. You are forgiving them and moving on so that you don’t stress about it. After this, whether or not you want to continue the relationship, be with them or choose another path, is up to you and a decision that can be made with conversation. But forgiveness is key.
