Spirituality and Environmental Impact on Relationship?
Spirituality and nature go hand in hand. Even though lots of spiritual folks like to meditate indoors, many religious processions take place in confined places like temples, churches, and mosques; many Indian sages love connecting with the divine in nature.
They preferred the open air—forests, rivers, and mountains—for their spiritual stuff, steering clear of the usual temples and mosques. Nature is like their big, peaceful temple. Ever felt that peaceful vibe in nature? Well, it turns out that spirituality loves hanging out there, too! Let’s dive into how nature brings that inner peace we all crave.
The Mahanarayana Upanishad also known as the Brihannarayana Upanishad, is an ancient Sanskrit text, and is one of the lesser known Upanishads of Hinduism. It explains how exactly a connection is established with the universe, when a seeker meditates in nature.
अंभस्यपारे भुवनस्य मध्ये नाकस्य पृष्ठे महतो महीयान्।
शुक्रेण ज्योती ग्वम् षि समनुप्रविष्टः प्रजापतिश्चरति गर्भे अन्तः॥
Ambhasya Paare Bhuvanasya Madhye Naakasya Prsistthe Mahato Mahiiyaan
Shukrenna Jyotiimssi Samanupravissttah Prajaapatish Carati Garbhe Antah
The divine transcends the Waters of the infinite Ocean, stretches through the vast expanse of the great earth, and surpasses the boundless sky. The divine greatness surpasses even the Great itself. Through the Seed of Light Consciousness, the divine manifests as the Creator within the Creation, playing and wandering within its cosmic womb. This mantra from the Maha Narayana Upanishad invites us to contemplate the vastness of nature and acknowledge the presence of the Lord within it.
Interconnectedness
Picture spirituality as a giant web connecting every living being on this planet. Even the planets, stars, and galaxies are holding together in space. It’s not just us humans; it includes the ants marching, the birds building their nests, and even the flowers blossoming- showing off their colors.
It’s this idea that we’re all in this cosmic dance together, each playing our unique part. So, when you tap into spirituality, you’re tuning into this universal harmony, where everything, big or small, shares a deep connection. It’s like realizing we’re all pieces of the same beautiful puzzle of existence.
Cultivating mindfulness with nature
Ever felt like life’s on fast-forward mode? Well, meet mindfulness – your backpack in the great outdoors. Imagine taking a stroll where every step is a date with nature or simply closing your eyes to inhale calm vibes. It’s not rocket science; it’s about soaking up the present moment in nature.
Nature Stroll: Take a calming walk in the great outdoors. Feel the ground beneath, notice the breeze, and let the chirping birds be your soundtrack. It’s like a mindful stroll party with Mother Nature.
Listen Up: Switch off your phone and listen. Hear the rustle of leaves, the babble of a brook, the wind gushing, or maybe a squirrel having a chit-chat. It’s nature’s own meditation music, and it brings you right into the moment.
Breathe in: Close those eyes and take a deep breath. Smell the earth, the flowers, and the clean air. It’s like inhaling calm vibes. Nature’s mindfulness potion, prepared in the magical cauldron of earth, exclusively for you.
Grounding Ritual: Find a comfy spot on the grass or under a tree. Kick off your shoes and let your feet touch the earth. It’s like plugging into nature’s energy socket. This will help you to ground yourself and make you feel one with the earth.
Mindful Observation: Pick something in nature – a leaf, a bug, or a cloud. Watch it like you’re a nature investigator. Notice the details, colors, and movements. It’s a ticket to the present moment, where everything else fades away, and it’s just you taking the role of the observer from a third perspective.
What happens when we pair spirituality with nature?
Divine Harmony: When spirituality dances with nature, it’s like a symphony of good vibes. You feel a positive exchange of energies, a connection between your soul and the sacred natural world.
Soulful Refuge: Nature becomes your sacred escape, a haven of tranquility. Spiritual moments under the open sky create a protective shield, keeping stress at bay, unable to intrude.
Peaceful Sanctuary: Your mind turns into a serene temple. Engaging in spiritual practices amid nature is like stepping into your own tranquil sanctuary, where the divine whispers bring inner calm.
Spiritual Rejuvenation: It’s like sipping from the divine well of nature’s renewal. After a sacred session in the outdoors, you emerge replenished, carrying the energy of the earth’s spiritual embrace.
Sacred Mindfulness: Nature transforms into your sacred space for mindfulness. Spiritual exercises amidst rustling leaves and gentle breezes become a natural meditation, a communion between your soul and the sacred cosmos.
