How To Celebrate Diwali Spiritually
Diwali is one of the best loved and enjoyed festivals in the great subcontinent of India. It is the festival of lights and is celebrated as a time of cleaning out the old and bringing in the new. Music, dance and, of course, sweets are added bonuses.
What you may not know is that Diwali is also a great time to set intentions and manifest all your dreams. It is the best time to harness the infinite potential God has given all humans and to manifest abundance in your life. For people struggling with money, abundance, or finding meaning in life, meditating on Diwali night is a powerful way to find your purpose and change your life. Sounds interesting, right?
A Process to Follow
The energies on Diwali night increase your inherent powers. The key is to devote your energy and time on the Diwali night and the night before Diwali in your mantra sadhna and meditation. Under the guidance of Guru ji, Shri Chamunda Swami, here’s a simplified sadhna process for your Diwali:
1. Set intentions:
In Sanskrit, intention is called Sankalpa. Intentions are an important fuel to your energy. They are different from goals. A right intention can truly put you into the right direction. A good start would be think of your intention in a clearly defined way. If you wish, you may write down your intentions in one line on a sheet of paper, either 11 or 21 times. It has been said that using a red or golden ink for such sacred intentions makes them even more attuened to our energy
2. Light diyas/lamps:
Light either 11 or 21 diyas with ghee. Be sure to set them in a thali or plate to avoid any fire hassle. Additionally, light 3 diyas of mustard oil as well. Lastly, set the diyas of Ghee on your left and the ones of mustard oil on your right. Ghee diya is very prominent for cultivating positive energy and mustard oil diya is used to clear away any negative energy.
3. Meditate:
An interesting step is to place a sample of your finances, like chequebooks or any gold or cash you might have, and the paper with your intentions, in the space between the diyas and meditate on Lord Ganesh by chanting the following mantra. Ganesh ji is the deity of removing obstacles. When you meditate upon his energy, you are inviting the blessings to remove all the natural and unnatural challenges in your success.
“Om namo siddivinakaye sarvakaryakarthare sarva-vighna-prashamanaye sarva-rajya-vashya-karanaye sarva-jan-stree-purush-akarshanaye shreem om swaha.”
Next, chant the beej mantra “Om Hreem Namah” for about 30-45 minutes and later chant or listen to the Shree Suktam. This mantrs is one of the most powerful Devi mantra for Diwali night. Diwali is also the celebration of divine feminine and chanting upon her energy could turn out to be a game changer for your spiritual path and material journey.
The effects of this meditation would be greater if your entire family does it together.
4. Visualize your goals and show gratitude:
The last step in this process is to envision your goals/intentions/plan for the next year in such a way that it has already happened and show gratitude for the life you have. You canuse the Shakti mudra (placing your palms side-by-side and covering your eyeswithout applying pressure) for this, or simply fold your hands in a namaste. Guru ji shares this mudra and meditation practice every Sunday at his Hicksville, NY center. It’s free to join for all. If you can’t join, it’s broadcasted on his facebook page as well. Do join us.
You can then move on to any other rituals you may regularly do during Diwali, like gifting your family and friendsand/or perhaps ‘kanya puja’.
Conclusion
The above-mentioned ritual takes aboutan hour and a half and assures a shift in your consciousness. You will feel a difference within yourself, if you do this whole heartedly.
Another thing you can do is ensure that you change your bed covers and sleep on a clean bed. Falling asleep chanting the mantra “Om Hreem Namah” can also make a huge positive impact.
However, the most important thing is to show gratitude for all your blessings and apologize for any mistakes you may have knowingly or unknowingly committed.
Do write to us sharing how your ritual went on Diwali. Feel free to ask any questions and doubts on your path to sadhna.
Happy Diwail!
