Kundalini Awakening
What Is It? Is It Safe? and How to Awaken It?
A supposedly rare experience, the Kundalini Awakening is an extremely powerful and spiritual process. It is understood that once a person has experienced Kundalini Awakening, there is no going back or even stagnation. There is only spiritual advancement and ascension from there. In this blog, we will understand what Kundalini is, what is the awakening of a Kundalini, the safety concerns around it, and ultimately the process to awaken it.
What Is Kundalini?
The term Kundali means coil and Kundalini means coiled female energy in the form of a serpent. The reason it is related to a serpent is that usually, snakes sit in coiled form when dormant. However, it takes just one spark to make them leave their dormant state and open up and move forward. Similarly, Kundalini Energy that rests in the base of a person’s spine, needs the beginning spark of Sadhana and spiritual practices to awaken it and activate the free flow of energy through the seven energy centers.
Kundalini Energy is the divine energy we are all born with. It is the energy that connects us to the divine powers and the universe in its energy, spiritual and material form.
The source of all energy, the Kundalini Energy is perfect, pure, and indestructible. This energy remains dormant till we take conscious steps to awaken it. This step is important so that we have the wisdom required to handle this energy when it awakens and starts flowing through our body. The Kundalini Energy rises against the laws of gravity and moves upwards. This takes a great amount of effort and dedication on Sadhak’s part because we are working against a powerful law of the universe. Since it is the divine energy, it follows its own laws.
Just like fire, it purifies, cleanses, and consumes imperfections and negativity from our beings.
The Kundalini Energy enters the human brain when the baby is inside the mother’s womb. The energy then passes through the child’s medulla oblongata and creates a vast, intricate system of energy channels and centers throughout the central nervous system. This system – the subtle energy system – influences our physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being for the rest of our lives. The residual Kundalini Energy then settles into the sacrum bone at the base of our spine, just above the Root Chakra, where it lies dormant, awaiting awakening.
What Is Kundalini Awakening?
When the residual Kundalini Energy which sits dormant below the Root Chakra begins flowing freely upwards through the Chakras and the entire being, it leads to an expanded state of consciousness. This process is called Kundalini Awakening.
Since it is such a powerful spiritual experience, yogis and spiritual practitioners spend years preparing for it. Many believe that one cannot control the time when Kundalini begins rising. Once it begins rising, the energy begins purifying us from inside out and there are many emotional, spiritual, energetical, mental, and physical changes seen in a person when this happens. People’s intuitions begin rising and getting better. Premonitions, clairvoyance, clairaudience, and clairsentience abilities begin increasing in you. Besides this, once all the Chakras awaken and the Kundalini energy begins flowing through them. When this happens, people notice that their goals and desires begin fulfilling quickly as well. Other experiences people notice is an urgent need to make life changes, sleep disturbances, anxiety, surges of energy, and shaking.
It is believed that once the Kundalini awakens, life is never the same for people. There are feelings of blissfulness, enhanced psychic abilities, more compassion, and empathy, increase creativity, and an increase in spiritual powers.
Is Kundalini Awakening Safe?
The answer is yes and no. It is completely safe if you are doing it under the instructions and supervision of a Guru. There is a lot of preparation that takes place before a person’s Kundalini begins awakening and only if you are prepared by your Guru and are aware of the changes you will go through, will it be safe.
For people who are unable to handle the energy upsurge and the variety of experiences that they go through, it becomes difficult to contain and direct the energy safely. In Tantra, Sadhaks practice for years and keep cleansing and preparing themselves to experience a safe Kundalini awakening experience.
To give you a perspective, this is the potent life energy that vibrates through us, the tangible and intangible world, the seen and the seen, and the universe as a whole. This is also the energy that manages the smooth operating of the world while keeping it alive and breathing.
When this energy begins awakening, especially after being dormant for so long, imagine the uproar it will wake with and how wild the spread would be. This is why people practice yoga and meditation and perform Sadhana for years under their Gurus so that when it happens, the Gurus can help them contain the energy and direct it towards the highest spiritual growth. We hope this helps you understand the importance of a Guru during the Kundalini energy awakening.
