Maa Kamala | The Dasa Mahavidyas
In the Dasa Mahavidya Series, we are discussing Maa Kamala today. The Tenth of the Ten Mahavidyas. To read the earlier blogs in the series, click the links below.
In this blog, we discuss Her appearance, how to do Her Sadhana, what Her Mantras are, and the benefits of Her Sadhana.
Maa Kamala is the Tantric representation of Maa Lakshmi. Kamala means lotus and Here while symbolizing purity and auspiciousness; it also symbolizes the entire manifested Universe. Lotus is also found in every Yantra and is associated closely with both Maa Lakshmi and Maa Kamala. She is the pure creative force, manifesting beauty and wealth around the world and enabling Her devotees to see the beauty in everything. Just like a lotus emerges from murky water but is pure, beautiful, clean, and nutritious, Maa Kamala teaches us to emerge out of the physical body and realize our truth and reality.
Her Appearance
Maa Kamala and Maa Lakshmi both look similar, each holding a lotus in two hands and the other two hands in Abhay Mudra and Varad Mudra, meaning fearlessness and blessings respectively, the key difference is that Maa Kamala’s image has two elephants on each side of Her, showering Her with water. The elephants symbolize the fertility of monsoon along with royalty and regality.
Her Sadhana
Cleanliness and activity are two of the most important aspects of Maa Kamala’s Sadhana. She doesn’t take well to tardiness and dirt. So for Her worship ensure that you are clean physically, mentally, energetically, and also environmentally. The room you worship Her in should be squeaky clean, and filled with a pleasant fragrance. Sincerity and honesty are again very important, so ensure that you speak to Her from your heart and be honest with Her. Don’t be in a rush to impress Her or show off. Be honest and be truthful and She will appreciate it the most. So after you have cleansed your surroundings and yourself, sit on a red color cloth, with a picture of Her in front of you and chant the following Mantra –
Om Namah, Kamalvasinye Swaha
Chant it for 108 times for 21 days and then proceed as per the instructions of your Guruji.
Benefits of Maa Kamala Sadhana
Just like Maa Lakshmi, Maa Kamala is worshipped to eliminate the devotees’ poverty. Besides this, the benefits are
1. She blesses families with children, good health and mental peace
2. She enables us to see the beauty and magic all around us and the miracles that take place daily
3. She helps us realize the true meaning of wealth which is more spiritual and material, in fact, She blesses us immensely with material wealth only to help us see the true meaning of wealth and begin on our journey of Sadhana
