Mercury Retrograde Do’s and Don’ts
We are all aware that Earth takes 365 days to complete its orbit around the Sun. Mercury, on the other hand, takes 88 days. Due to this, Mercury zooms past Earth about three to four times a year. What is interesting here is that as Mercury rounds the bend, it appears to slow down, stop, move backward, stop again and then move forward. This cycle is known as retrograde or Rx from the Latin word “retrogadus,” meaning “backward step.” Interestingly, the symbol Rx is also seen commonly in doctor’s prescriptions. When we looked at ancient history, we found that one of the theories relates the symbol to the Eye of Horus, an ancient Egyptian symbol associated with healing powers.
Come to think of it, we all stop, take a step back, stop again and then move forward when we need to heal, don’t we? That is what the Mercury Retrograde asks us to do.
We are currently experiencing the first Mercury Retrograde of this year. It started on January 30 and will end on February 21. Considering that we all need to heal from what 2020 brought us, this seems like the perfect time to stop, step back, stop again and then move forward.
In this blog, we will understand what Mercury rules and the do’s and don’ts during the retrograde.
Known as ‘Budh’ in Hindi, Mercury rules the conscious minds of people, which is ‘Buddhi.’ As a result, all things related to the conscious mind come into the purview of Mercury like –
1. Perceiving and relaying information
2. Communication and negotiation
3. Buying and Selling
4. Contracts, emails, physical mail, and important documents
5. Electronic communication
6. Gadgets
7. Anything with moving parts (including vehicles and watches)
8. Distribution Networks
9. Short Travels
Mercury Retrograde happens to help us learn our lessons and do it better the next time. This is why having the presence of mind and understanding fully what we are doing is essential at this time. What happens if we don’t? Well, Mercury keeps taking us back and forth till we learn our lessons.
It’s not only Mercury; whenever a planet turns retrograde, it’s time to attend to the matters ruled by the planet.
Let’s now look at the do’s and don’ts during the retrograde.
Do’s –
All you need to do during a Mercury Retrograde is things that begin with ‘Re’ –
1. Revise your life and look at what you have done so far, what you want to do, and how you want to do things. It’s also time to go back to the lessons we learned in the past and ensure we know them well now.
2. Recount your expenses, your income, your accounts, and your inventory. If something is missing, get it and if there is a mismatch in the finances, make sure you find them out and correct them.
3. Reunite with lost lovers, friends, family, and yourself. Best time to go inwards a5nd connect with yourself while also looking back at relationships and healing whatever you can.
4. Recycle things, people, paperwork (be careful with this one), and places you don’t need anymore.
5. Repair a vehicle, a watch, a gadget, or anything that has moving parts.
6. Rewrite any documents that you aren’t feeling right about or anything you must have written in the past and feel needs a revision.
7. Resign when a discussion isn’t going the way you thought it would and give up the need to win at this time. It is essential to speculate on your thoughts than the external at this time.
8. Rejoice and count your blessings. Thank your Ishta Deva for all the blessings, and make sure you thank your parents, your Guruji, and the Universe every day.
9. Recuperate and go inside. You can say no to the parties, hanging out with friends, and any travel trips now. Snuggle with a book and a hot cup of cocoa, or just sleep covered in blankets. Rest is crucial for your mental and physical health at this time.
10. Renovate your home and workspace. Cleaning them first is a good idea. Best time to make your spaces fresh and rejuvenated.
Don’ts –
1. Do not sign any contracts or submit important documents
2. Do not begin projects that will take more than a couple of days to complete
3. Do not purchase new gadgets, electronics, watches, vehicles, or anything that has moving parts.
4. Do not renew your passport or apply for a visa
5. Do not trust your memory.
6. Do not change your PINs and Passwords
7. Do not undergo elective surgery
8. Do not get married.
9. Do not shift homes.
Most importantly, it’s time to learn our lessons and learn them well. Meetings, flights, mails, and couriers might get delayed. Hence, we suggest you don’t book travel unless extremely important. You might also want to reply to new client inquiries with caution as most inquiries coming at this time hardly turn into a business. Same with new relationships, it’s best to finish what you started before you begin anything new. Also, keep your plans flexible and easy, so the sudden change won’t leave you startled.
The next two Mercury Retrogrades will be from May 29 to June 22 and September 27 to October 23. We suggest you bookmark this blog for then so you can easily refer to it when needed.
We hope this blog helped you understand Mercury Retrograde better and make sense of what’s happening worldwide. Feel free to send us your queries at info@chamundaswamiji.com
