Navratri – The Nine Nights of Consciousness – Explained
The Nine Nights of Consciousness begin in ten days and in this blog, we explain to you what Navratri is, why it is celebrated, and the Tantric Importance.
What is Navratri?
Nav means Nine and Ratri means Nights. Nav also means new and the festival of Navratri begins a day after the New Moon, marking a renewed beginning of Shakti (Divine Power) for the Sadhaks.
Also known as the Nine Nights of Consciousness, Navratri is a celebration of the Nine forms of Maa Durga, which further merge into the three primary forms, Maha Kali, Maha Saraswati, and Maha Lakshmi. That is the meaning of Navratri for the modern Sadhak, put as simply as words allow us. To delve deeper and understand the concept better, you can follow our page for blogs, a detailed E-Book, and more information on the festival.
Why is Navratri Celebrated?
Navratri is celebrated in different ways in different parts of the country, but the primary purpose is to awaken the Divine Consciousness within, to attain wisdom, knowledge, wealth, and enlightenment. For Spiritual Seekers, the sole purpose of celebrating Navratri is to dive within their subconscious, higher-self, tap into their Kundalini energy and awaken, align and empower their Chakras, ultimately attaining the highest truth.
The Nine Goddesses work with us to cleanse, purify our physical, mental, and emotional worlds and bodies. Post the cleansing, our worlds and bodies are aligned and empowered, thus helping us become better and higher versions of ourselves.
Tantric Importance of Navratri
Navratri is the honoring of the Sacred and Divine Feminine. Here, it is important to understand that Divine Feminine doesn’t mean a list of good things that society has conditioned us to believe about the feminine. Divine Feminine is instead a mixture of playfulness, rawness, fierceness, compassion, healing, and love. Also, volcanic energy, wild energy, untamed energy.
It is everything that you see out in nature, the love, the growth, the fertility, the abundance, the trees and the birds, the animals, and their herds, everything that Mother Earth and the Mother Goddesses give us, is what all women are gifted with. Also, when we refer to the Divine Feminine, it surpasses the difference of gender. It is the Divine Feminine present in each living being, no matter their gender or species.
There is a Mantra in Sanskrit –
Yatra Narestu Pujyante, Ramante Tatra Devata
This means, wherever the Divine Feminine is worshipped, honored, acknowledged, and respected, the abundance and divinity flow effortlessly. This means every place where the feminine in me and the feminine in you is acknowledged and respected, prosperity, abundance, wisdom, and knowledge will flow in like magic.
Tantra gives the highest importance to the feminine energy and understands the role of the Divine Feminine in the conception, creation, and operation of the Universe. The upsurge of energy is at its peak for all Tantra teachers, students, and seekers at this time. They are open to receiving, managing, and harvesting this energy and reaching their highest potential with it.
The Divine Feminine invites the ultimate healing, the ultimate ecstasy, the ultimate meditative experience within all of us. That is why, if you are a Tantra practitioner, teacher, student, or seeker, Navratri is a golden period of you.
As we worship, acknowledge, respect, and honor the different forms of the Divine Feminine, we also invite them to reside within each of us and transform us into vehicles of their love. To use us as they seem fit, and help us play our roles in the grand scheme of things.
To understand how to use this period the best, what Sadhanas to perform, and how, you can refer to our E-Book which will be available shortly for download on our website. If you’d like to get an early copy, send us your email address and we shall email it to you.
