In this post, we’ll guide you through the process of buying an authentic Rudraksha that can enhance your spiritual journey. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced spiritual practitioner, understanding the basics of Rudraksha beads is crucial to make an informed decision. So, let’s dive in and learn how to identify and buy an authentic Rudraksha.
It is said that
हस्ते कर्णे तथा शीर्षे कण्ठे रुद्राक्षधारणात् । अवध्यः सर्वभूतानां रुद्रवच्चरते भुवि ।।
The one who wears the Rudraksha in hand, in the ear, in the head, and in the throat is not capable of being killed by anyone or even performing evil deeds. The one becomes pious like Lord Shiva, roaming on the earth.
Rudraksha beads are known for their spiritual significance and have been used for centuries in various spiritual practices. They are believed to have immense healing properties and aid the wearer’s spiritual growth. However, purchasing authentic Rudraksha beads can be a daunting task, given the numerous options available.
Our aim is to equip our readers with the knowledge and tools necessary to make an informed decision while purchasing Rudraksha beads. We understand that Rudraksha is not just a spiritual tool but also an investment in one’s spiritual growth. Therefore, it is essential to purchase authentic Rudraksha beads that can enhance your spiritual journey.
The market for Rudraksha, a sacred seed in Hinduism, is quite large. However, unfortunately, there are sellers who sell fake or low-quality Rudraksha to make a profit, which is not appropriate. Therefore, it is crucial to purchase Rudraksha from an authentic seller. However, even some authentic Rudraksha sellers may not provide you with the right information and may perform inconclusive tests to check the authenticity of the Rudraksha. It is important to remember that Rudraksha is a divine item and should be treated with respect and care. First, let’s see what those inconclusive tests are…
Copper Coin Test to check the authenticity of Rudraksha
The Copper Coin Test is a common way to check the authenticity of a Rudraksha bead. It involves placing the Rudraksha bead between two Copper coins and observing its movement. It is believed that if the Rudraksha is genuine, it will rotate due to its energy field. However, this test is not reliable, and one should not solely depend on it. The results obtained from this test can be inaccurate, and it may not give a clear picture of the authenticity of the Rudraksha.
Milk Test to check the authenticity of Rudraksha
The Milk Test is another way to check the authenticity of a Rudraksha bead. This test involves soaking the Rudraksha bead in a glass of milk, and some unscrupulous sellers claim that if the milk remains fresh and does not spoil for 2 to 3 days, the Rudraksha is genuine. However, this test is entirely false and does not provide any accurate information.
Water Test to check the authenticity of Rudraksha
The Water Test is a popular way to check the authenticity of a Rudraksha bead. In this test, the Rudraksha bead is dropped into a container of water, and it is believed that an original Rudraksha bead will sink while a fake one will float. However, this test is not entirely reliable as some fake Rudraksha beads, made of wood and impregnated with lead, may also sink, giving a false impression of being genuine.
The water test does not always provide accurate results as the density of the Rudraksha bead can vary based on its age and absorption of oil and moisture. A fresh Rudraksha bead typically floats in water, but over time, as it absorbs oil and moisture, it may start sinking. Therefore, relying solely on the water test to determine the authenticity of a Rudraksha bead may not be appropriate.
X-Ray test for Authentic Rudraksha
The X-Ray test is considered the most reliable and conclusive method to identify the authenticity of a Rudraksha. It is the only test that can accurately reveal whether a Rudraksha is genuine, fake, or has been tampered with. During this test, an X-Ray is taken off the Rudraksha bead to determine whether it has the same number of compartments as the Mukhis or not. A genuine Rudraksha will have the same number of compartments as the Mukhis, with a bead in each compartment.
This test is important as it helps to prevent the purchase of fake or manipulated Rudraksha beads, which may not have the same spiritual benefits as the original ones. By ensuring the authenticity of a Rudraksha through the X-Ray test, one can be assured that they are obtaining a genuine and powerful tool for their spiritual practice.
It is important to note that a Rudraksha bead should have the same number of compartments as the number of Mukhis on its surface, and each compartment should have a seed in it. However, sometimes the Rudraksha may not be fully developed, and some seeds may not be visible in an X-Ray due to their thinness. For instance, if a 15 Mukhi Rudraksha is X-rayed, a genuine bead would have 15 compartments and 15 seeds, but if the Rudraksha seed is not completely developed, it may show 15 compartments but not capture all the seeds. Thus, it is recommended to seek guidance from an “expert” while taking the X-Ray to ensure accurate results.
Things to look out for before buying the authentic Rudraksha-
1. When buying an original Rudraksha, it is important to be mindful of certain factors that determine its authenticity. One should look for Mukhis that run from the head of the Rudraksha to the tail without being cut or distorted in between. The color of the Mukhis should also be the same as they run from top to bottom.
2. A genuine Rudraksha will have a natural shape and color. It should not be perfectly round or have any artificial color or shine. The color should be consistent throughout the bead. Ensure that the Rudraksha bead is free from any cuts, cracks, or damages. A genuine Rudraksha will have a smooth surface.
3. To identify artificially carved lines on the bead, one can use a magnifying glass. These lines are often very sharp and glued to the surface of the bead. It is important to ensure that the bead is not artificially altered in any way.
4. It is also important to note that a one Mukhi round Rudraksha does not exist. The shape of a Mukhi Rudraksha is not round but rather oval or cashew-shaped. The number of Mukhis on a Rudraksha bead represents the number of natural lines that run from top to bottom. Ensure that the number of Mukhis is clearly visible and matches the description provided by the seller.
5. Although it is not recommended to do so, one can cut the Rudraksha bead horizontally to check its authenticity. If the Rudraksha has the same number of compartments as the number of lines, then it is considered genuine. However, this method is not advisable as it will damage the bead, rendering it unusable.
6. It is important to purchase Rudraksha from a reliable and authentic source. Do your research and find a seller with a good reputation. If possible, ask your Guru’s advice on where and how to purchase authentic Rudraksha, and they will guide you in the right direction.
Rudraksha Consecration
यः पुमान्मंत्रसंयुक्तं धारयेद्भुवि मानवः । खलोके वसेत्सत्य सत्यमेतन्न संशयः ॥
There is no doubt about the people who wear Rudraksh with mantra, they go and live in Rudraloka (abode of Lord Rudra).
बिना मंत्रेण यो धत्ते द्राक्षं भुवि मानवः । स याति नरके घोरे यावदिद्राश्चतुर्दश ॥
And the person who wears Rudraksh without mantra consecration, that thief goes to hell and suffers there as long as Chaturdash Indra is ruling on the earth.
It is clear how ancient scriptures thought about consecrating the Rudraksha before wearing it. Set aside the harsh language, and you will see that it is important to activate it spiritually to enhance its effectiveness.
This is because Rudraksha beads are considered sacred and are believed to contain divine energy. Consecration is a process of purifying and energizing the bead with the help of Vedic mantras and certain rituals to awaken the dormant energies within the bead.
By doing so, the Rudraksha becomes spiritually charged and more receptive to the wearer, thereby enhancing its benefits and effectiveness. Without consecration, the Rudraksha may not be able to provide its full potential and benefits to the wearer.
Consecrating your Rudraksha is imperative to ensure its effectiveness and to establish a strong connection with the divine. Our experienced and knowledgeable team understands the significance of this process and will perform it with utmost care and reverence.
