What Meditation style is best suited for you?
The only wrong way of practicing meditation is by not practising it. Various schools of thought, various scriptures, and many Gurus are out there to train you in different styles of meditations. It is very easy to get confused and demotivated when there are so many options to choose from and pieces of advice to listen to.
The first step of meditation is to know what type of meditation will be most suitable for your health, personality, condition, and purpose.
Meditation is all about being in the present, being connected with the completeness here and now. You just sit straight, in a comfortable position, be still, observe, by letting it go, discover the rich fullness of the present moment. But it’s easier said than it’s done. Meditation takes you one step closer to know yourself, and one step closer to the divine.
To dive deeper into spirituality, you need a knowledgeable and reliable Guru who will help you navigate your meditation as it evolves. Developing your spirituality with honesty and integrity, his main focus should be to lead you to it. There are several types of Meditation types you can practice, depending upon what you are seeking.
Guided Meditation:
If you are just starting with meditation, then this type of meditation is ideal for you. May it be in-person class, listening to a recording, or following any kind of verbal instruction, guided meditation helps you to get a start. It is ideal for active minds that need some help focusing, or the beginners who need some extra guidance.
Loving-Kindness Meditation:
This is another example of meditation for beginners. It utilizes words, pictures, and emotions, to conjure love and affability within you. It improves mental well-being, by enhancing self-love along with improving relationships with others.
Vipassana Meditation:
The Sanskrit word Vipassana translates as Insight. It is the process of increasing inner awareness step by step, reaching for the state of complete self-liberation. Liberation from worldly desires, liberation from suffering. It is a difficult process of meditation, for experts.
Focused Meditation:
It involves focusing on any five senses. Our mind behaves like a ship sailing with the wind, in the form of random thoughts. Focus meditation uses our senses as an anchor to avoid drifting away in our thoughts. May it be focusing on the breath, may it be staring into the flame of a candle, or even listening to a gong, focus meditation brings back your wandering mind to the right place, without any judgments and actions. As the name suggests, this practice is ideal for anyone who requires additional focus in their life.
Progressive Relaxation Meditation:
Also known as a body-scan meditation, progressive meditation is aimed towards reducing mental, as well as physical tensions from your body. Extension of Shava Asana, or, a corpse pose, during this meditation, you focus on sensations in your body. Here, you mentally scan your body, from head to toe, concentrating on each and everybody parts, trying to notice how you feel. Progressive Relaxation meditation not only reduces stress and anxiety, but also helps in managing chronic physical pain as well.
Chakra Meditation:
Here, the focus point is not a breath, but the points in our own body. By conjuring a specific visualization of body Chakras, we can focus on the mind, along with the body as well. Chakra meditation helps us balance the Chakras, which have direct links to our physical and mental well being.
Mantra Meditation:
If you have problems concentrating, if you have a specific resolution to reach towards the divine, Mantra meditation is best suited for you. Vibrations associated with the repeated mantra chanting brings out positive change, a boost in self-confidence, increased compassion, and it transcends you to a deeper state of Meditation.
